Here is the letter of the Women’s Caucus, sent along with the submission on the ASEAN Human Rights Declaration in PDF and text:
Hon. Rafendi Djamin
ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights
21 October 2011
Dear Mr. Rafendi,Warmest greetings from the South East Asian Women’s Caucus on ASEAN.We are happy to submit the Women’s Caucus inputs to the ASEAN Human Rights Declaration (AHRD). This submission is our contribution to the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) in integrating women and gender into this ground-breaking process that will lead to the region’s very first human rights declaration. The Women’s Caucus is a network of women’s organisations and women’s human rights advocates from 11 countries in South East Asia. Its extensive membership, that spans quite diverse human rights issues and expertise, has been engaging ASEAN, its bodies and processes over the last several years towards the integration of women and gender in the framework and operations of ASEAN.This submission is a fruit of a series of consultations which include both regional and national consultations with women’s organisations, individual experts and feminists across South East Asia.
In the coming weeks, we hope to share with you an extended version of this submission, one that further explains the human rights which we listed in this present submission and which are actually supported by the constitutions and laws of ASEAN member states and international human rights instruments.
We would appreciate if your office could acknowledge our submission and if we could be updated on the developments around AHRD. Should you have any queries, please feel free to e-mail our colleague Nina Somera at nina[AT]apwld.org.
